18 Apr THE GREAT AMERICAN ECLIPSE ROAD TRIP
The Great American Eclipse is over but its affects and ramifications are still being felt.
From discord in Charlottesville to Hurricane Harvey to threats from North Korea, it may indeed feel like the United States we have known is undergoing an extreme realignment. Our culture; threats to healthcare and support for our most vulnerable, how to deal with AI’s, LGTB, Net Neutrality…change, change, change and change is always uncomfortable. How can Tarot, Astrology and other metaphysical/holistic/psycho-spiritual disciplines help? support? guide? Can there be clues gleaned from personal experience. Paying attention to one’s feelings and mindfully acting upon them can bring amazing insights, and, of course, great experiences. So what did I learn from my experience, what can I share?
As I expressed in our recent sharing, I was moved to view the The Great American Eclipse in its totality. It felt like an obsession. So I managed to connect with my friend, Jungian Astrologer, Cathy Pagano (www.Wisdom-of-Astrology.com) and her friend, Pam Galli, who already had planned the 1,200 mile trip from Rhode island to Beaufort, South Carolina in order to be in the zone. They graciously let me accompany them on the journey. The weather was perfect and the travel was easy. We magically avoided the “parking lot” that Rt. 95 South became as the weekend went on. Our Air B&B accommodations couldn’t have been more ideal! Beautiful view and comfortable amenities! My traveling companions were wonderful, as well. I liken our road trip as sort of a Thelma and Louise and Louise on the road ala Woodstock.
We watched the eclipse in Georgetown, South Carolina, hosted by a great family who were friends of one of my companions. With a lovely picnic lunch and removed from the crowds in the little town, we held a “private” communion together in a large field behind their condo.
The forecast for the day, and actually most of the time we were supposed to be there, was cloudy, overcast, with some rain. So I took it upon myself to do some “weather magic”. I have used the technique for many years, generally on the days where I officiate weddings in order to assure that brides have a glorious day. The ritual is fairly simple; mindful invocation of the energies of the Land, Sea and Sky, while cutting the weather cords with a very sharp knife which is then buried under a mat by one’s front door. It worked! The weather the entire time was perfect!
On the afternoon of the Eclipse, clouds were beginning to form and threatened the viewing. I invoked a welcome to Great Spirt, and as I did so, 2 Hawks began circling overhead. Clouds parted and the sky became clear again in our vicinity, all the while thunder heads appeared south of us. Each time the clouds threatened to close in, two Hawks appeared and, flying counterclockwise, seemed by their very actions to dispel the clouds.
While we were sitting viewing the spectacle, two large dragon flies, one blue and one green, also made their appearance, resting briefly on my leg, then moving to a blanket on the ground where they stayed for a long time.
I have been taught by The Elders and by my experiences to pay attention to synchronicities and the appearances of the Bird and Insect tribes, especially during meaningful events. The messages are there, not only for me, but for all who live on this Turtle island. So, heed the words of the messenger’s:
When Hawk arrives as a Spirit Animal, you are asked to use the power of vision and intuition in your daily life. The Hawk Totem provides wisdom about seeing situations from a higher perspective, using the power of observation, and focusing on the task at hand. It’s a good companion to develop spiritual awareness.
The Hawk Spirit Animal has several attributes and meanings:
Hawk is the messenger of the spirit world
Use the power of focus
Take the lead when the time is right
Power to see, clear vision
Strong connection with spirit, increased spiritual awareness
When the Hawk shows up in your life, be sensitive to the messages it may carry and be receptive to your own intuition.
Dragonfly Totem carries the wisdom of transformation and adaptability in life and is connected to the symbolism of change and light. Dragonfly reminds you to bring a bit more lightness and joy into your life. Those who have this animal as totem may be inclined to delve deep into their emotions and shine their true colors.
The Dragonfly is associated with the symbolic meaning of transformation. We are being asked to evolve and reach our full potential. It calls you to live and experience yourself differently and stay open to the enfoldment of your personal journey. Here are common meanings for this animal totem:
Change and transformation
Joy, lightness of being
Symbol of the realm of emotions, invitation to dive deeper into your feeling
Being on the lookout for illusions and deceits, whether are external or personal
Connection with nature’s spirits, fairies realms
You can call on the Dragonfly power animal when you’re stuck in a situation and need assistance to gain a new perspective. The solution might lay in your ability to adapt and tackle the issue from a different angle.
Lightness and emotional flexibility, two characteristics of the Dragonfly.
Lightness in feelings, lightness in thoughts. The Dragonfly invites people to keep a light, positive outlook no matter what.
It symbolizes the affinity with the realm of feelings, water being a powerful symbol for emotions and the unconscious.
That there were two Hawks and two Dragonflies is also meaningful. Two is the number of CoOperation, Balance and Partnership.
The message I took away from this encounter was that it is time for a Great Re-Balancing. We Humans need to come into right relationship with Earth, Air,and Water. We need to come back into balance with ourselves and those others with whom we share our planet. Without Partnership, between Peoples, Countries, between Man and Woman, we cannot move forward, overcome our difficulties and prosper. if We The People do not get a higher view of our difficulties and cooperatively work together to move life forward for all in a positive way, the future may indeed be bound to a crooked path.
Back in 1990 a book pf prophecy, “Black Dawn, Bright Day”, was written by Earth Keeper/Medicine Teacher, Sun Bear. Eerily, its cover features a total eclipse. It contains predictions for coming Earth Changes, data, maps and information as to how we can best survive and successfully move beyond the shift to come. Interestingly, it notes that Houston and the East Coast of Texas will have severe weather events resulting in floods. Other predictions, especially those made in the Hope Prophecies seem to be unfolding in our world at this time, these are covered in depth in the book. Ultimately, all we can do, one human at a time, is to act with integrity and mindfulness, reach out and support fellow humans with Love, and realize we are all connected and interconnected to all life on this planet. Gaia is alive and speaking to us at every turn.
